The little dog, Mayzie, in The Wattle Lane novels was inspired by my own dog, Finn. Like Mayzie, Finn is a funny little bitzer with a big personality. He has a tuft of hair that stands up on top of his head and looks so adorable.
Finn was a very mischievous puppy, chewing the corners and legs of furniture, and the edges of every rug in the house. He also managed to destroy every toy we bought him. He took great delight in digging up the back lawn, pulling plants out of the garden, upending plant pots and dragging out the contents. But we forgave him all his naughtiness, because he was only being a puppy, after all. He has a friendly, playful personality, is very sociable and loves to play with other dogs.
Finn is sixteen months old now. He has boundless energy and is still very demanding, but in many ways he has settled down. On the positive side, the back lawn doesn’t have as many holes, and he is much better at coming when he is called, although he does still have selective hearing at times. He still runs off with socks and slippers whenever he gets the chance, and he still pulls like crazy on his lead when we are out walking. But all those things we are working on.
He loves to swim and play ball and run and explore and lie in front of the fire on cold winter days, and he LOVES his food. He has a real zest for life. Our little boy is one of a kind and we love him to bits.

Aw Finn is adorable.I love that he loves to swim.Hugo is only just beginning to like water. He literally doggy paddles for one minute, comes back out, shakes himself all over us and repeats all over again.Hes also a terrible lead puller! A drooler and sometimes suffers from selective deafness too.But he is sooo cute and loving that you can’t help but forgive him. Dogs are proper family members.x

We can’t keep Finn out of the water. Even in the winter he’ll stand beside the water’s edge at the river and bark until we throw a stick in for him to fetch! Luckily he dries really fast. I love seeing your pictures of Hugo. He is so lovely!
